Edgecomb

Edgecomb, incorporated in 1774, with North Edgecomb, lies between the Sheepscot and the Damariscotta Rivers. Fort Edgecomb State Park is a popular historic landmark. The park encompasses a block house and fortification remains. The Fort overlooks the Narrows of Westport Island. Nearby is the Marie Antoinette House. Legend has it that the Queen was to have been rescued and brought to this house in 1793, a plot that failed. The house was moved from its original Westport Island location to Edgecomb. During the Revolutionary War, Edgecomb was noted for having the best in timber, namely: white pine, spruce, and hemlock for boat building.
