So Much to See, So Much to Do

Whether charging forward or kicking back, for any age and any season, we have virtually limitless options. Take a hike along trails preserved by the Boothbay Region Land Trust, with scenic views of rocky shores, coastal islands, and river corridors. Visit Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, open year-round and ranked number one on TripAdvisor’s top 10 public gardens in the USA. The Maine State Aquarium offers fun and informative programs about all things maritime.  At the Boothbay Railway Village, ride the rails behind an authentic steam locomotive and view a collection of antique autos. We have world class entertainment at the historic 1894 Opera House in Boothbay Harbor.

Planning the Perfect Wedding

Whether you are planning a traditional ceremony or a unique same-sex wedding, the Boothbay Harbor Region has something for you. You’ll find classic New England steeple churches and chapels, an abundance of lovely B&BS, resorts, hotels, inns and restaurants. Exchange your vows at a 200 year old stone chapel with a breathtaking view of the rocky Midcoast or at a simple yet elegant church. Maybe a gazebo overlooking a coastal park is more your style or you could choose to tie the “nautical” knot at a marina or a lighthouse. Conveniently located a scenic hour from Portland, the Boothbay Harbor Region offers the perfect mix of history, natural beauty, rustic charm and friendly local flavor to appeal to any wedding style.

So Many Places to Stay

We have hotels, motels, inns and resorts right in town and off the beaten track. No matter what kind of accommodations you’re looking for, the Boothbay Harbor Region has just the place with a variety of lodging options that are as unique as our coastline. A number of hotels offer fine dining on the premises, while our B&Bs provide the hearty breakfasts that are part of their namesake to enjoy leisurely or on the go as you head for the day’s activities. If vacationing with the whole family or a large group, consider renting an entire home on the waterfront or cottage nestled in the woods. Two campgrounds offer everything you need to pitch a tent or park your RV, plus organized activities for all ages.

Dropping Anchor

Whether it’s your first visit or you are dropping anchor here for the 50th time, we are delighted to share with you the constant (and constantly changing) connection that this lively harbor community has long held with the sea’s changing tides. Boothbay Harbor has long been considered by mariners to be the finest deep water port north of Boston with many calling it “The Boating Capital of New England”. As a mid-Maine stopping point on the passage between Casco Bay to the southwest and Penobscot Bay to the northeast, its beauty and quiet ambiance have no equal. Among yachters, visitors will find camaraderie among those who return year after year.

Taste the Difference

A new wave in the Maine food movement has arrived in Boothbay Harbor. There seems like there’s no end to the choices. We have everything from freshly caught seafood to world-fusion cuisine, food trucks to fine dining establishments, family-owned institutions to chef/owners who are reinvigorating our downtown from the table up. Sit at a picnic table under an umbrella or at a romantic table for two complete with linens and crystal. We offer seafood, Italian, Asian, small-plate tapas, hand-cut steaks, chowders and soups, oven-fresh artisan breads, and even Foodie Tours! Whatever your taste, you’ll find an unforgettable dining experience in the Boothbay Harbor area

Sculpture in it’s Natural Habitat

The Boothbay Harbor Region Sculpture Trail exhibits completed sculptures outside local businesses and institutions in downtown Boothbay Harbor. The long-term plan is to extend the trail throughout the peninsula with new sites being added as work becomes available. Each piece of sculpture will be for sale with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the artist. Visit our beautiful harbor and charming community at any time of the year and take a walk or a drive to explore the growing sculpture trail.
