Meals to Match the Spectacular Views
A new wave in the Maine food movement has arrived in Boothbay Harbor. There seems like there’s no end to the choices. We have everything from freshly caught seafood to world-fusion cuisine, casual eateries to fine dining establishments, family-owned institutions to chef/owners who are reinvigorating our downtown from the table up.
Taste how we’ve upped the ante on the farm-to-table movement by adding the flavors of sea-totable. As a seafood-centric town, more than a score of restaurants within walking distance of the town wharf offer all things lobster, as well as a bounty of fin-fish and shellfish prepared to order: crab cakes, steamed mussels, shrimp, native and locally farmed oysters and mussels, Atlantic haddock, salmon, tuna, scallops, skate. All straight from the sea to you.
We’re proud of our local institutions, going back decades and offering traditional fare like seafood dinners and fried fish and chips. Get cracking on lobster as the featured plate, dipped into melted butter. Chow down on an overstuffed lobster roll, or try the abundant ways our chefs use lobster as an ingredient—ever had Lobster Eggs Benedict for brunch?
We’re also seeing a reinvention of historic establishments, rejuvenated and now featuring delicious menus of everything from linen-and-crystal cuisine to savory pub fare. We have plenty of other choices, too—from Italian and Asian to small-plate tapas, hand-cut steaks, homemade chowders and soups, oven-fresh artisan breads and pizza. You can order up a lobster or clambake on the beach, or a takeout meal for a picnic. Simply strolling along the waterfront will introduce you to establishments of all types that provide classic harbor views while you enjoy your meal.
For your sweet tooth, try the many shops that offer perfectly baked pastries, donuts to die for, smooth-as-silk chocolate fudge, dozens of varieties of flavored popcorn (like sriracha and dill pickle), classic saltwater taffy, and ice cream by the scoop, bowl, or piled high in a sundae.
