The Boothbay Sea and Science Center (BSSC), launched in 2013, is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) charitable organization with the mission of inspiring individuals to strengthen themselves and their community through the enjoyment of the sea.
The BSSC is:
An affordable experiential learning Center founded on core values that embrace the organization’s conscience that everyone deserves a chance to experience and enjoy the water, regardless of financial means.
A program that opens horizons on marine related vocations and opportunities while collaborating with existing private businesses and non-profit organizations enhancing and promoting education – all in an environment that is fun and challenging.
A year round program that collaborates with Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences and The Rozalia Project offering a variety of science and marine related educational opportunities while working with local schools, organizations, businesses, groups and individuals to provide programs such as Marine Science, Seamanship, Foundations of Racing, Navigation, Safety at Sea, Meteorology and Boatbuilding.
A program that encourages the preservation of Maine’s maritime heritage by teaching traditional skills and promoting multiple aspects of the working waterfront through partnerships with area lobstermen, fishermen, shipyards and marinas.
