Something Fun For All
You’ll never run out of things to do shoreside in the Boothbay Harbor Region. Whether charging forward or kicking back, for any age and any season, we have virtually limitless options. Start your day exploring the tide pools in Barrett Park or Grimes Cove or dropping a line for salt or freshwater fishing. Take a hike, and watch for wildlife and birds, along trails preserved by the Boothbay Region Land Trust, with scenic views of rocky shores, coastal islands, and river corridors. Visit Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, open year-round and ranked number one on TripAdvisor’s top 10 public gardens in the USA (2013).
The Maine State Aquarium offers fun and informative programs about all things maritime, from the iconic lobster to local sharks you can pet in a tank! Catch the “Sea Monsters Past and Present,” hands-on learning program this year. You’ll also enjoy the best view of the harbor here, learn to fish for mackerel from our dock, and enjoy a picnic on our lawn!
At the Boothbay Railway Village, ride the rails behind an authentic steam locomotive and view a collection of antique autos. Highlights this year include the Maine Coast Stone Symposium in August, featuring granite demonstrations and sculptors at work; and autumn’s 50th annual Fall Foliage Festival, including giant-pumpkin-carving in partnership with Maine’s Pumpkin Trail.
While you’re here, get in a game of golf at the Boothbay Harbor Country Club, a historic gem recently renovated that also features several restaurants. The kids are sure to love a round at Dolphin Mini Golf, which includes an arcade and shell museum. Perhaps you enjoy camping? We have waterfront and inland campgrounds.
You can take a drive, play tennis, tool around by bike and taste-test our many eateries. Visit the library and catch a band performance or poetry reading. We have tons of galleries to browse, artists to meet, performances to enjoy, specialty retailers to shop, and incredible festivals, like Windjammer Days and Claw Down, our annual chef competition. Or just hang around the waterfront taking in the scene and sampling some tasty treats from our sweet shops!
